What is all too clear from the drawings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For some time now, I have been digitally archiving my old work \u2013 there simply isn&#8217;t enough space to store all the folders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was particularly attracted to a series of early ship drawings. They are part of an unrealised precursor project by Quincey Howard. It was about a British privateer fleet that was supposed to wage trade warfare from a secret base in the Caribbean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"565\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nauticalfiction.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/ILL-2306-Devon-Step-0-B-ILL.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3515\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nauticalfiction.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/ILL-2306-Devon-Step-0-B-ILL.jpg 565w, https:\/\/www.nauticalfiction.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/ILL-2306-Devon-Step-0-B-ILL-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 565px) 100vw, 565px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The Devon was the flagship of this fleet. The design still has considerable room for improvement \u2013 a weak point in my work for a long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the positive side, you can see that I have already started researching:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The masts are already divided and each segment is rigged separately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In accordance with its size and purpose, the ship has only one battery deck and additional guns on the quarterdeck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The figurehead railing is only hinted at, but it points in the right direction.
