AI-Experiments
Since last summer, I have been experimenting with generating AI images that can help me with my illustration work.
So far, the best result I’ve achieved is finally getting around to creating the illustrations for the articles on ships manually. But every now and then, I do end up with an acceptable image.
That’s why I’ve decided to document my work with AI in this gallery.
Corvette (Ship-Sloop/Postship) (KI generated)
I have started another series of AI-generated depictions of the most important warships of the Age of Sail. The image of the smallest fully rigged sailing warship is the first in the series. It still has a number of inconsistencies, but it is acceptable. Further corrections would have made the image worse rather than better. This is one of the major deficits of AI at present. In addition, the hull was too high out of the water. However, this was easy to retouch.
Frigate (KI generated)
The frigate actually turned out best. The stern is the best in the entire series, and you can just about make out the gun ports on the aft deck. And after correcting the waterline, the hull height is also reasonably accurate.
Two Decker Ship of the Line (KI generated)
The two-decker turned out quite acceptable, except for the strange quarter galleries and the missing gun ports on the aft deck. Here, too, I had to move the waterline upwards.
Three Decker ship of the Line (KI generated)
The three-decker liner rounds off this series. Overall, one of the better implementations so far. In addition to the waterline, I also retouched the quarter galleries of the stern. The AI likes to come up with idiosyncratic solutions here.
