07-28-2026 And now for some …
…thing completely different
I’ve been drawing steadily again for about a year now. So far, I’ve focused on ship’s plans.
Now, almost without realising it, I’ve moved on to a new topic:
I’ve drawn a mortar ship – in the early form of the ‘Bombenketch’ – for the ship types.
The difference compared to conventional warships lies in its armament, which consists of mortars. However, due to the way they are mounted, they remain hidden behind the ship’s edge when viewed from the side.
That’s why I wanted to create a cross-section showing the mortars this time. – Obviously, I needed a drawing of a mortar for that. So I looked for a reference, and luckily I found one in *Landström*, as a supplementary illustration to the bomb sketch.
Once ‘installed’ on the ketch, the mortar inevitably looks rather tiny. So I decided – especially as I’ve got more pictures of guns and weapons coming up soon – to set up a new gallery.
Compared to the ships, the guns are fairly simple objects. So this time, after finishing the line drawing, I decided to try out the profiling functions in Affinity Designer.
And as that worked quite well, I went straight on to the next step and coloured in the drawing.
I was so pleased with the result that you can now admire it in the new gallery.
