When we visited my wife’s family in the US in January, there was still some extra space in the suitcase. So, without further delay, I packed a sketchbook, my blue pencil and a few ink pens.

A good decision. Our nephew (10 ½) was working on one of those typical American school projects. And he was planning a presentation about the Battle of Midway.

“Then you can draw him one of the American carriers” was my first thought. But out came this battle scene, inspired by the Japanese attack on the aircraft carrier Yorktown.

Admittedly, the drawing is a bit clumsy, as I haven’t attempted complex perspectives for a long time.

But the boy liked it and wanted to draw something himself. So we had a session together where we each drew our version of the same template. Here is mine – and as you can see, the boy is more fascinated by aeroplanes 🙁
